On July 31, 2022, the Phoenix Schϋtzengesellschaft turned off the lights of the shooting range and Jägerstube at the Anaheim Phoenix Club for the last time. It was a sad time, more so for those members who remembered building the range nearly 30 years ago. For a period of time, our shooting activities that are our tradition had to be put on hold while we built the new range at our new Brea location.
Throughout the remainder of 2022, and for the first half of 2023, many Schϋtzen members contributed their time and sweat into the construction of that new range. Some elements of the old location were added, while some new elements were incorporated as well. But what was important was that the members who make this group what it is have become a part of the new range.
On April 15, Chief Range Safety Office Doug Koehler took the official "first shot" in our new 5 lane range, and declared it ready for the group to resume its eagerly awaited shooting tradition. And on subsequent Wednesdays our long held shooting traditions could finally resume.
Another tradition of the Phoenix Schϋtzengesellschaft is to celebrate, of course. And on June 11, 2023, we formally opened the range with a gathering of our members, a brief ceremony, food, and gemütlichkeit. This has been a long time coming, and the process was not without some difficulty, but at long last, our range and Jägerstube are complete.
